Chasing the Weather
Changing seasons = changing countries
I’m so excited… and I just can’t hide it… yup - I’m on the move again. But this time, it’s a little different.
Ok - time to catch you all up on what has been happening…
I ‘ran away from home’ (NZ) back to Bali in February and aside from a couple of quick side trips to Aus and Singapore for conferences, I have been living quietly in Bali most of this year. Lovely weather in between the tropical rainstorms - the wet season lingers longer this year it seems. But while the days are calm and the lifestyle healing and gentle for the soul, it was time to come back to NZ for a few things needing to be taken care of, and then…. and then…. drumroll please….
I’m heading to the USA for two months! Yessss!!! A dream of mine is to live for a couple of months at a time in iconic cities around the world - unexpectedly (from out of the fog of Easter) came the chance to sublet a small apartment in Manhattan by friends who live there, so: ‘Dixie, take that up!’ I said almost without hesitation.
It has occurred to me that this represents an extraordinary opportunity to write about being in a place where instead of just being a ‘tourist’ I can get my feet on the ground and fully explore the history and the lifestyle, even if only for a short time. So, my plans are forming to write a daily account of my time there for this channel.
I’ve just re-read the book New York by Edward Rutherford, detailing the general history of the city since the early Dutch settlers till the 2010 period. I’ve a list of places I want to go and things I want to explore, but I’m also seeking great tips, ideas, suggestions, so go ahead and let me know what you would do if there for an extended stay.
Meanwhile - I confirmed my flights yesterday, paid for them today, and now all that’s left to do is get past this next 10 days of house sitting in Northland NZ, then off I fly.
